Senator Jay Rockefeller Lunches with Mike Engelhart

This is the great event I had written the teaser about some 2 items down . . .

Last Friday afternoon brought another incredible event for the engelhart4judge.com 2008 campaign. The green hybrid pulled into the valet parking lot of Tony's at Richmond & Timmons, and we went into the small back room/wine cellar and right inside the door were West Virginia Senator Jay Rockefeller, and Ambassador Arthur Shechter. Because many had apparently sent their checks, but could not attend in person, we had the unparalleled opportunity to dine between the Senator and the Ambassador. Local prominent attorney, Charles Foster added to the discussion. We spent over an hour discussing politics and policy with them, and it was about as much fun as one can have legally. We could have stayed there all day. Both gentlemen were extremely encouraging and supportive of our campaign.

Senator Rockefeller has had a great campaign swing through Texas, and is very excited about the Democrats chances to take back this State in 2008.

Afterwards, the Senator, all 6'7" of him, took my hand, put another hand on my shoulder, and looked me in the eye. I won't tell you exactly what he said, but it was heartfelt advice on campaigning based on 20+ years in the Senate, and 35 years of campaigning. He's a very nice fellow and we had a spirited discussion about wide ranging policy issues. I believe he first ran for office when Shirley Chisholm ("Unbought and Unbossed!") ran for President (1972).

Several other individuals well known to all of you were there and promised their support as well. Thank goodness I went to this event. The Senator was kind enough to sign my menu from the lunch.
