A Beautiful Afternoon in Bellaire

Engelhart4judge.com took the short ride to the other side of I-610 this afternoon to the home of Nancy and Jim Lomax. The Lomax's, longtime Bellaire Democrats, hosted a very well attended fundraiser for Democratic judicial candidate, Fred Cook. Fred is running for the 215th District Court of Harris County. His Democratic opponent is Steve Kirkland. It was about 73 degrees, dry, breezy and sunny.

Fred was kind enough to acknowledge me in his speech, and did a terrific job. The crowd asked a bunch of questions. One self-described Republican civil litigator even said she was planning to cross over to vote in the Democratic primary just so she could vote for Fred. She signed his ballot petition and mine. Now that's putting your money where your mouth is.

As I've said before, there are many more Republicans like that person who will vote in the Democratic primary in March 2008 because (1) that is where the action is, and (2) for the first time in a long time, we will have a chance in Harris County to vote for the most qualified candidates on the Democratic side to take on the "entitled" Republican incumbents. More beautiful days and events like these, please.
