Pensamientos on Friday
Hello friends. There's so much going on, I wanted to fill you all in before it got to be too much to put in one post.
Event-wise, I was working much of the beginning of the week to prepare for a continuing legal education presentation I gave on Wednesday evening. It was a seminar for the Association of Women Attorneys. The seminar was on my paper about recent Texas Supreme Court rulings affecting prejudgment interest and attorney's fees. I think it went well, and provides a good resource on the basics of prejudgment and postjudgment interest, and how recent rulings have modified things.
Last night I was at the very well attended Jolanda Jones kickoff event. She is running for the Houston City Council, and is a dear friend. Several other judicial candidates were there, and we compared notes on fundraising, petitions for the ballot, and organizations. Everyone's definitely rowing in the same direction and bursting at the seams about our chances for 2008.
Tonight is the Nick Lampson kickoff event for CD-22. I am anxious to see lots of friends there and to talk up the judicial races.
My letter to the editor was published in the neighborhood paper, the Village News. Here is a LINK to the letter in .pdf format. My receptionist, Blanca, was kind enough to (literally, with scissors and glue) cut and paste and scan in for me. (The paper has no website, I don't think).
Fundraising-wise, things are going gangbusters (to coin a phrase). People are literally throwing money at our campaign because they are so hungry for change at the courthouse, and can literally see it coming -- they can almost taste it. I can too. By the way, today and tomorrow are the last 2 days for this fundraising reporting period. I am very close to $25,000.00 in cash on hand and firm pledges. Please help me reach my goal of $30,000.00 in the bank by tomorrow. I will be making fundraising calls for about 2 hours today, so don't be surprised to hear from me.
Next week I am looking forward to marching in the Kingwood July 4th parade with the Kingwood Area Democrats -- at their special invitation. I will also be attending the Annise Parker July 4th BBQ, which I am told is a boot stomping event every year.
I am also very excited to announce that we will, any day now, have bumper stickers, available. Here's a link to a .pdf of the bumper sticker. BUMPER STICKER.
Please drive by or stop in at my office at 1300 McGowen Street (corner of McGowen & Caroline) to see giant 4 foot x 8 foot signs that will be going up around the outside of the building.
We'll have push cards available soon, too. We're working on the final wording and photos for that card. The header from the card will look like the banner on this site, above.
By the way, the title of this post, "Pensamientos on Friday" is stolen from my friend Stace Medellin's blog, Dos Centavos. Every Friday he posts his "Thoughts on Viernes" column. The two titles mean the same thing. The English and Spanish words are juxtaposed. You figure it out . . .
Best,
Mike
