Almost End of July Roundup

Well, another fantastic month of campaigning and fundraising in our race for the 151st Judicial District Court comes (almost) to a close.

Primary-ly

Of note is the fact that I began the month with a primary opponent, Marc Isenberg, and ended the month without a primary opponent. Marc will be running for the 80th District Court against a tough 2nd-time candidate, Larry Weiman. I wish them both luck, and look forward to working with them shaking hands, kissing babies and raising money on the trail. Obviously, engelhart4judge.com feels very good about no longer having a primary opponent, and we did some serious celebrating by going out and getting really [edit].

Kickoff Fundraiser

Last Wednesday, our Kickoff fundraiser came off without a hitch. Our next Texas Attorney General, Barbara Ann Radnofsky, held an incredible party for engelhart4judge.com 2008. We had a packed house, with a number of the Democratic judicial candidates in attendance. Bob Schaffer (152nd), Jay Beverly, Martin Siegel (both court of appeals), and Fred Cook (215th) were present. Loren Jackson (District Clerk) was there as well. Jolanda Jones (City Council AL-5) had two representatives there as well. All of the civilian guests got to see a part of the strong field of Democratic candidates in place for aggressive 2008 runs for office. It was an amazing and humbling event. I got to speak about the reasons I am running, and the things I want to do as judge. I spoke about the campaign and the Democrats strategy and approach. The talk seemed to have been well received. We received yet another infusion of cash at the event, and are looking forward to several other events throughout the fall.

Interestingly, our Republican opponent only had $23,000 in the bank at the end of June.

Campaign Office

About 10 days ago, engelhart4judge.com rented a non-green, non-hybrid box truck and schlepped furniture, a donated copier, and campaign paraphernalia to our new campaign office. We're located at 4151 (get it, 4 - 151? heh-heh) SW Fwy., Ste. 507, Houston, Texas 77027. We won't get mail there (we'll have a PO Box any day), but we'll have an open house soon.

Campaign Meeting

On Friday afternoon, July 27, we held a campaign meeting, and continued planning and scheduling our paid media rollout for the fall and next year. We expect to overwhelm our Republican opponent in the 151st District Court with advertising and elbow grease. Of course, we'll continue to need your help.

We'll be holding a creative meeting on Friday the 3rd at around 4:00 p.m. All are invited to attend to brainstorm about ideas for youtube.com videos, paid commercials, Myspace and Facebook page design "friend" building, campus campaigning and billboards. It will be held at campaign headquarters, 4151 SW Fwy., Suite 507, Houston, Texas 77027. Call me at 713-298-9460 to let me know you're coming. Please come.

Upcoming Events

In the coming week we have the following in addition to the above-referenced Friday meeting at our campaign office: HGLBTPC meeting on Wednesday, August 1 from 6: 30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Havens Center at 1827 W. Alabama. On Thursday, August 2, 2007, we'll be at the Happy Hour event at Cafe Adobe on Westheimer near Shepherd from 5:30 to 7:00 for State Rep Alma Allen (Dist. 131). We may try to get to Minute Maid Park on Thursday the 2nd as well for the James Rodriguez event. Apparently that's going on all day.
