2 Interesting Developments and Some Fun
First, Mary Flood, the Chronicle reporter with whom I lunched about two weeks ago finally broke down and decided to write something about engelhart4judge.com 2008. She posted an entry to her Houston Chronicle blog called "Legal Trade". I've linked to the story in "The Press Room" section on the right side of this blog. Here's an excerpt:
Finally, let's have some fun. I have started a MySpace page and a Facebook page. Let's have everyone and their brother (or sister) get on one or both of those and start gathering "friends" from all of the local colleges and universities and other groups. Please join me. It's a lot of fun building your site and adding widgets and gadgets and decorating your page. I've joined a bunch of Democratic groups on both sites as well. It's a great networking tool for our campaign. With your help, we can get our message out to hundreds or thousands of local young voters.

Despite the fact that just about everyone except judges and judicial candidates pretty much agree that we in Harris County elect our judges on the coat tails of the top of the ticket, Engelhart is enthusiastically campaigning as if most voters will actually get to that part of the ballot with a clue in their heads. . . .Second, newly elected Houston City Councilwoman, Melissa Noriega, has agreed to endorse me for Judge of the 151st Civil District Court! She's a great lady, and we should have the written endorsement posted on this site in the near future. That is fantastic news, and I am very proud to receive such an important endorsement.
Who knows, this time he could be right. There was 1996 when Katie Kennedy, a well-liked and respected jurist, was the lone Democrat to keep a Harris County bench in a Republican judicial ballot sweep.
