engelhart4judge.com 2008 talks with Katy Area Democrats

Last night, the engelhart4judge.com 2008 green hybrid cruised silently in electric-only mode into the parking lot of the Maud Marks library in Katy, Texas to attend the meeting of the Katy Area Democrats. There was a tremendous turnout for a Tuesday night right before school starts up again. Leslie Taylor, candidate for the First Court of Appeals was there. She spoke about her own campaign (very briefly) and also about the Johnson, Rayburn, Richards dinner coming up on October 20. Larry Weiman attended as well and spoke for a few minutes at the end.

I was the scheduled main speaker, and got to actually stretch out my speaking legs for a change, instead of being in a hurry to get on and off. I spoke about my family and my career. I spoke about what the court I am running for does. I spoke about why I believe that a Democratic world view makes for a better judge. I got to talk about the technological changes that I want to bring to the court to lessen the burden on attorneys, litigants and jurors.
The group was very friendly and positive. They seemed excited to hear about the optimism the judicial candidates have been experiencing from Democratic leaning voters they talk to. The group did not appear to be novices, either, and had some important questions about process and strategy to ask. I really enjoyed the give and take.
In the end, we made plans to work together at the Katy Rice Harvest Festival in mid October. I invited the group -- looking for ways to increase its membership -- to sit with me at the engelhart4judge.com 2008 both at the Festival.
As a bonus, the group had our petitions to sign, and it seems that everyone there signed them, which was a great help, of course.
Then I started the 5 hour drive back home to Bellaire.
