A Really Rewarding Week!
What an amazing week! This week my Democratic judicial candidates and I got to spend quality time with some incredibly dedicated Democratic activists. On Wednesday, the engelhart4judge.com 2008 green hybrid coasted silently in electric-only mode to West University. Almost all of the Democratic Judicial candidates got together with the West University Democrats for a meet and greet and petition signing bee. There was a terrific turnout and they were very kind to host us and speak with us about the campaign.
On Thursday night, the torrential downpour that hit Houston caused the postponement of the Senate District 6 signing bee. I hope that's rescheduled soon.
On Friday night, we all got to hang out at the Home Plate Bar & Grill by Minute Maid Park with the Harris County Young Dems. Not only were the Harris County Democratic Judicial candidates there, but Susan Criss, running for the Texas Supreme Court was there, too. The Houston City Council candidates were there, including Jolanda Jones, Sue Lovell, Zaf Tahir, Wanda McAdams, James Rodriguez and several others. Loren Jackson, our District Clerk candidate was there, too.
Stace Medellin of Dos Centavos.net was there with his sister, Sylvia, and lent an air of class to the party.
This morning, I had the distinct pleasure of having breakfast at LePeep on Westheimer in west Houston with Dallas County District Judge Martin Hoffman. Judge Hoffman is one of the Democrats who knocked out a Republican incumbent in Dallas County in 2006. He and the rest of those Democrats are heroes to a lot of us around Texas. We Harris County Democratic judicial candidates expect to duplicate their feat here in 2008. Judge Hoffman and I talked progress, strategy and organization. He's very very interested in what's going on here, and has pledged his continued help and time.
After breakfast --due to some fantastically lucky timing-- I was able to attend the West Houston Democrats Club meeting. I got on the list to speak, and was able to say a few words after City Councilman Adrian Garcia, judicial candidates Fred Cook, Larry Weiman, and others. I spoke about the excitement I am feeling all over this County for 2008. The big crowd (especially for a Saturday morning) was really attentive and responded well to our message that we are going to do what they did in Dallas, and that all the elements to do it are in place. It was a fun fun time and I look forward to visiting with that group again soon.
Things are really coming together. As Labor Day approaches, I am really looking forward to the campaign getting more into full swing.
